Fiesole - FirenzeAl centro di un’emozione
The Poggio a Muscoli farm is situated on one of the most beautiful panoramic hills of Tuscany, looking towards Fiesole and Florence. This agricultural family business is devoted to the manufacture of extra-virgin olive oil, to lavender, to healing herbs, to the rediscovery of iris and, for several years, to saffron culture.
The field includes a range of panoramic earthworks and is mostly devoted to oil manufacture. The orchard includes almost a thousand olive trees of typical Tuscan varieties (gentile, moraiolo, pendolino), while aromatic herbs are cultivated on the smaller terraces, such as lavender and rosemary, along with saffron, a bulbous plant that finds a favourable environment in the Mediterranean climate of Fiesole.
“Saffron begins to flower with the first autumn rains, develops its vegetation during winter and spring and then hibernates, as its leaves wither and it survives on the soil as a bulb-tuber in the warmer and drier summer season.Once used for the manufacture of some medicines that are no longer in use, saffron is used in cuisine as a spice, providing a pleasant and aromatic taste.”
Enzo Schiano and Claire Beliard founded the Poggio la Noce estate in 2000.
Poggio la Noce is a family-run estate, entirely managed by Enzo and Claire, with the help of Roberto Roberto oversees the day-to-day operation of the vineyard as well as the wine cellar. Some consultants provide technical assistance with enology and agronomy.
Our DOP certified Oil is pressed using a private olive mill, which is used exclusively for our olives.
The vineyard is located at about 240 m above sea level with a south/south-west exposure. The grape variety consists of Sangiovese (90%), plus a small plot (approximately 10%) of Teroldego.
Poggio la Noce produces two IGT wines, Gigiò and Gigetto. The quality of these wines begins with the selection of the grapes in the vineyard. The first harvest for our Gigetto wine takes place once the grapes reach the appropriate level of ripeness. Gigetto is a high quality wine, easy to drink, with captivating freshness and immediacy. Our second harvest takes place about 10 days later for clusters destined for Gigiò to reach further maturation.
For both wines, our rigorous selection continues in the cellar before fermentation and vinification. In fact, each cluster is carefully selected before destemming. We then continue with a berry selection using our sorting table, further eliminating unwanted berries. Gigiò is an age-worthy wine, with great structure, elegance and complexity.
The fermentation process takes place in a natural way without the addition of yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. Our wines are aged in French oak barrels: for Gigetto 6 months, while for Gigiò 12 or 18 months. Our wines age further in bottle to achieve better drinkability. Gigetto is aged in bottles for 3 months before release, while Gigiò is aged in bottles for 12 months. Publications and critics have awarded scores of 91 points and 93 points respectively to Gigetto and Gigiò.
The Poggiopiano Farm is located on the slopes of hills of Fiesole looking towards the Arno Valley, close to Florence.Vines and olive trees cover almost 17 hectares, at an average altitude of 150 metres, on a poor, calcareous and marl-based field. The full exposure to sun determines a particularly favourable microclimate, allowing for a low environmental impact of agricultural activities, according to the requirements of biological agriculture. The farm has been owned by the Galardi family since 135 and during the last 25 years it has been focused on the replantation of olive trees and vine.
All the facilities have been refurbished according to a development programme personally followed by the owner, Mauro Galardi, based on the search for a continuous improvement of culture techniques, with a view to achieving a valuable use of production quality and guaranteeing hygiene in the transformation and preservation of products.
The annual production:

Campilungo società agricola srl became the owner of the small farm of Villa di Campolungo in 2005 and, year after year, it has restored the old olive orchard of about 1500 trees, also entering the circuit of certified biological farms. The owners are an Italian-Norwegian family, currently producing high quality extra-virgin olive oil with genuine passion. The olive orchard is located 320 metres above the sea level, at an altitude that generally raises no issues in terms of diseases or pest attacks against olives. In November, when they are at their peak, olives are brought to the olive-press within 8 hours from harvesting.
The obtained oil has a very low acidity, because olives did not have time to ferment and, thus, to acidify. The peroxide content is at its lowest as well.Low acidity and low peroxide content are the best indicators of an optimal preservability of oil, that can thus maintain its fundamental organoleptic properties, such as that of being a useful antioxidant, in the long term. Extra-virgin olive oil is sold within the farm and sent to the entire world, upon request. Extra-virgin olive oil is a raw material for a delicate handmade soap. The soap includes 60% olive oil from the farm and other natural ingredients. It contains no parabens, chemical or oil-based substances. It is manufactured in two versions: lavender, with pure essential lavender oil with anti-bacterial and disinfecting properties, and rose, with extract of dog rose and shea butter, with moisturizing and softening properties.
